Safaricom Ethiopia has extended its large-scale customer pilot to Bahir Dar and Adama cities. This recent addition marks the 4th and 5th cities in Ethiopia to test Safaricom Ethiopia’s network, following Dire Dawa, Harari and Haramaya phased city-by-city customer pilots in the last month.
Customers in Bahir Dar and Adama cities will be able to purchase SIM cards and choose their preferred numbers on Safaricom Ethiopia’s 07 prefix. The Safaricom Ethiopia SIM cards come with the welcome offer of Data, Voice and SMS for customers to test and experience the network for one month.
In addition to the welcome package, customers will be able to actively register on the network, purchase airtime vouchers and devices; and access dedicated customer support in the branded shops and all branded souks in the cities.
In Bahir Dar, 4 branded shops (Kebele 14 – in front of Yetebaberut, Kebele 16 - in front of NOC, Kebele 11 – Abay Mado, Kebele 12 – in front of Bahir Dar University Wisdom Campus) and In Adama, 2 branded shops (Francco and Post office areas) are open to serve customers.
On Safaricom Ethiopia’s pilot network in Bahir Dar and Adama, customers will be able to use data services; make calls and send SMS to Safaricom Ethiopia and Ethio Telecom customers and make international calls worldwide.
Customers in the two cities have the option of accessing customer care services from the call centre by dialling 700 and speak to the customer experience agents in their preferred language (Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Af-Somali, Tigrigna, and English).
“Our phased city-by-city customer trials are now growing to central and Northern Ethiopia, with more cities to follow, after the network rollout in Eastern Ethiopia over the past couple of weeks. The pilots in Bahir Dar and Adama allows us to continue rigorous service tests in Amhara and Oromia regions, looking forward to our national launch in October 2022, and serving all of Ethiopia. We would like to appreciate the Government of Ethiopia; the Amhara regional government, the Oromia Regional Government; Mayors of Bahir Dar and Adama cities; the Ethiopian Communications Authority; network, IT and distribution partners; community leaders; and all stakeholders for all the support enabling us to offer our services towards and these milestones,” said Anwar Soussa, Chief Executive Officer, Safaricom Ethiopia.
The customer pilots in Bahir Dar and Adama are part of switching on our network and services in 25 cities by April 2023, working in partnership with government, businesses, local communities, and other stakeholders as part of our long-term commitment to transforming lives for a digital future in line with the Digital Ethiopia objectives.
